July – Summer outing

On warm summer afternoon 14 members visited the Maison Dieu a Medieval building in Dover that has been recently restored to its neo gothic splendour.

We were given a very interesting and informative guided tour of the building detailing its uses throughout the ages: from a place where pilgrims rested on their way to Canterbury, to a naval vitualling yard where dry biscuits and beer were manufactured, to use by Dover Town Council with a magistrates court and town jail.

Followed by a delicious cream tea.

Our thanks go to Christine for organising this event .
