July 2026

President Christine Farquhar welcomed 37 members and 6 visitors to the July meeting. Coffee hostesses Kate D, Kay H and Dee M-P were thanked; Julie T was thanked for the flowers. Molly M was thanked for selling all fifty of the NFWI raffle tickets.

The Treasurer gave an update of our finances.

After a break for coffee, cake and chat we welcomed Alison Marsden whose talk was entitled ‘Gardening for Drier Summers’, which was very appropriate for the current weather conditions.

Alison started her talk by saying that summers were becoming warmer and the weather was becoming drier all year round. Alson then told us about improving soil structure, rainwater collection and plants that have adapted to drier conditions.

She illustrated these points with photos of Beth Chatto’s garden and gardens at Chartwell. As always with gardens it is a case of right plants in the right place. This was an interesting and timely talk.

Please note that as usual there wull be no monthly meeting in August., but we will be meeting up on 14 August for fish, chips and prosecco on Hythe prom . Click here for details.
