Patchwork and Quilting Group

During lockdown Barbara Thornburn started up a Patchwork and Quilting group. Members meet once a month on a Monday at 10am using Zoom.

Barbara was very generous in sharing her extensive knowledge and expertise with the group. Prior to each meeting she sent out information sheets and YouTube links to support the classes. At each meeting she demonstrated a new patchwork technique and showed us her own worked examples. Members then practiced what they have learnt in their own homes. There is always plenty of time for questions and discussion.

We have not only been taught patchwork techniques, but have also learnt about the tools and materials needed and the importance of colour and design. Among other techniques we have experimented with squares, the disappearing 4 patch, log cabin, Roman stripes, string quilting and English paper piercing.

Sadly Barbara has passed away, but we decided to continue the group in her memory and now are helping each other with various projects. Recently we have been making quilts, including some of Barbara’s material, to go out to Ukraine .

The gallery below shows some of the examples we have produced …so far.

Next meeting Tuesday 7 October 2pm at Christine B’s house.
