The Resolution to be put forward at the NFWI AGM in June is *Bystanders can be Lifesavers” and it will be discussed at our May meeting – preparation will be carried out by Dawn, but we need a volunteer to do the actual presentation. Croissants and jam will be served afterwards!

The Castle Green WI pampering basket to go to the EKF ACM next month was on display – thank you to all members who donated the items and to Cynthia for the basket.
Bárbara B had used a kit donated by Barbara Thorburn’s family to make this lovely Kaffe Fassett designed cushion. This was raffled at the meeting raising £60 to be donated to the Pilgrims Hospice.

Also on display were another set of children’s quilts made by members of our patchwork group . In the next month these will be going out to an Ukrainian orphanage .
After coffee/tea cake and catching up with friends we welcomed Tracie Fulton whose talk was entitled “The history of Midwifery” sub-titled a little trip through time.
Tracie told us that the first mention of a midwife was in the Old Testament and that in the first book on the subject it was written that a midwife should have “gentle hands, the eyes of a hawk and the heart of a lion.” In the Middle Ages midwives were often thought to be witches and some were brought to trial. Gradually through the years midwifery was recognised as a profession and a code of practice was drawn up. This was an interesting talk with amusing asides from Tracie who answered several questions from members.

Romany gave the vote of thanks.
