We meet on the 2nd Friday of each month at the refurbished Lads’ Club, Rectory Lane, CT21 4PZ in Saltwood. We try our hardest to be an inclusive group; the hall we meet in has a ramp for disabled access, there is as a disabled toilet, we use a microphone at our meetings and are able to produce our newsletter in large print. Please do let us know if you have any special needs.
Our meetings generally start at 10 am and finish by 12 noon. We begin with the President’s welcome, news from EKF and NFWI, updates about our activities and sub groups along with our Treasurer’s report. After the business part of the meeting we have plenty of time for coffee or tea, cake and all important chat before settling down to listen to our speaker of the month or running one of our activities. Both talks and activities are varied and reflect the wide interests of our members. Each month we also run a very popular raffle. In addition we have a well supplied sales table selling a selection of crafts, plants and books etc.
We try to provide activities for everyone and are always open to new suggestions. We run several sub groups like the Knit and Natter, Patchwork, Walking and Book groups, as well as a Lunch/coffee Club and a new Garden group. In August we enjoy fish, chips and Prosecco on the beach and hold a very popular annual Christmas lunch in December. Our Summer outing this year will be a visit to Bilsington Priory including a talk and followed by a tea and scones . Do have a look at our ‘what we do’ pages for details of all our activities.
Our members can also attend East Kent Federation events such as the Garden and Craft days. These events are advertised in the East Kent News magazine which is sent out monthly directly from EKF to all members via email. Our members also receive, through the post, 8 copies per annum of WI Life magazine from the NFWI and are able to log into the member’s only part of their website known as MYWI, with its own Learning hub running many free online courses.
At present we have nearly 60 members who are a very sociable, welcoming and friendly bunch. We are still open to anyone wishing to join us. At any one meeting around 35 to 50 members will be present to meet old friends and make new ones.
Please feel free to come along to one of our monthly meetings as our guest to see if you would like to join us.
