President Margaret Alcock welcomed 29 members and 1 guest to the September meeting which was held in Saltwood Village Hall. Usual day, different time and venue. This was the first face to face indoor meeting since Friday 13th March 2020.
Apologies for absence were accepted and Marjorie Mitchell was thanked for the beautiful flower arrangement. The record of the July meeting was approved and signed.
A Christmas Tree Festival organised by Saltwood Church will take place on 3rd – 5th December and Castle Green WI will be taking part. More details to follow.
The EKF Annual Council Meeting will be held on March 6th at the Lees Cliff Hall. The guest speaker will be Helen Sharman CMG OBE (the first British Astronaut).
Jackie Vickerman, Gill Chapman and Romany Cowans, who had formed a sub-committee to follow up on this year’s NFWI resolution to Raise Awareness of the Subtle Signs and of Ovarian Cancer, gave a report of their local campaign thus far.
This was very interesting and thought provoking. Margaret Alcock thanked them for their work on the subject.
During the several lockdowns we have lived through over the past months members have been knitting squares which have been made into blankets. So far we have sewn up 15 blankets and these will be distributed to the following Care Homes in the next week : Abbey lodge, Cornerways, Hythe View, Saltwood Care Centre, St Margaret’s Nursing Home , Tynwald Residential Home and Balgowan .
As we settled down to sew up the dozens of squares members had donated, the wonderful display of blankets already completed was placed along the edge of the stage.
The sewing was also a great opportunity to have a good chat!! Listening to the comments of members it was obvious that everyone had enjoyed the afternoon.
At the end of the meeting several very kind members each left with 36 squares to sew into yet more blankets, which will be distributed after our October meeting.
Well done to everyone involved – a really magnificence effort all round!
