October 2021

President Margaret Alcock welcomed 36 members and 3 visitors to the October Annual Meeting. This was our first “proper” face to face meeting in the newly refurbished and extended Lads’ Club. Members enjoyed all the extra space that allowed them to spread out around tables to read their EKN magazines.

The President introduced Dorothy Douse who is the WI Advisor for Castle Green WI. Patricia Robinson was thanked for the flowers on the President’s table and apologies for absence were accepted.

Gill Chapman told members that knee blankets had been distributed to Balgowan, Cornerways, St. Margaret’s Nursing Home and Saltwood Care Centre and were much appreciated. There are still squares to be sewn up into blankets and when completed these will be distributed to nursing homes in Saltwood and Hythe.

Julie Andrews gave an update on the Christmas Tree Festival to be held in Saltwood on December 3rd-5th. Without giving too much away, our tree will be decorated in true WI style!

Daphne Gazeley reminded members about the Christmas Lunch to be held at Lympne Castle on Thursday 2nd December and by the end of the meeting we had more than the required number to secure the booking. There are still places for anyone wanting to join us. Click here for more information including the menu.

We then moved on to the Annual Meeting. The record of the 2020 Annual Meeting was read, approved, and signed. Treasurer Lynda Daly presented the Financial Statement which was seconded and approved. The President thanked Lynda for once again providing us with a clear and understandable report.

Secretary Christine Burgoyne presented the Committee’s Annual report which was followed by the President’s Address.

Kay Hygate thanked the President and committee for their hard work to keep Castle Green WI flourishing and compared us to a swan. Serene on the surface but paddling like mad underneath!

Dorothy Douse our WI advisor ran the election for our new President and Julie Andrews was duly appointed.

As our Presidents and 2 Vice Presidents were retiring from the committee they were thanked for all their hard work by Julie and presented with flowers. Julie also thanked Valerie Humphries who had made up the bouquets and the arrangement.

We then relaxed with Prosecco and nibbles, had a good chat and members collected patterns and materials to make the Christmas tree decorations.
