March 2021

President Margaret Alcock welcomed 27 members and 2 visitors to the March meeting held on Zoom. Apologies for absence were accepted and the minutes of the last meeting were read, approved and signed. The new Knit and Natter group had met for its inaugural meeting in February and will continue to meet on Zoom, at the moment, on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 2pm-3pm.

NFWI BOARD ELECTIONS. The committee put forward to the meeting its choice of 12 nominees for the NFWI Board and this was accepted by the meeting. At the recent NFWI meeting to vote on changes to the constitution 3 of the 4 the changes were carried with 100% majority and the 4th with a 99.67% majority.

Treasurer Lynda Daly gave a short financial report and reminded members that the annual subscription was due by April 1st.

Barbara Thorburn drew members attention to incidents of dognapping in the area and several members added to this information.

After a short break, the great Castle Green WI Canape Competition was held. Those taking part held up their plates of canapes for everyone to see and gave a short description of their canapes. Judges Barbara Thorburn and Elisa Croucher went into a huddle on their phones and then announced their decision.

1st Mandy Elson and her mum Jean Foord

2nd Biddy Fraser

3rd Mary Hunter

Special mention was given to Molly Morris who had broken with convention and included fruit canapes.

All the entries looked delicious, and it was a shame we could not have a tasting session.

After another short break we settled down to enjoy a Bingo session led by our caller Daphne Gazeley. So, with an “Eyes down, Look In !” the first game got underway, and the level of concentration was palpable even on Zoom. Daphne used the crib sheet that came with our new Bingo “machine” and we were amused at some of the new wording. Legs eleven and 2 little ducks 22 were the same, but not the wording for number 88!

Romany Cowans was the first to shout “House” and in the second game Hortense Oates was the first to get a line.

Margaret Alcock thanked Barbara and Elisa for judging the canapes competition and Daphne for organising the Bingo. Another fun morning for Castle Green WI.
